Amidst the scare of the new Covid-19 variant ‘Omicron’, the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) in Bhubaneswar has confirmed that the new variant has not been detected in any of the 246 COVID19 positive samples.

The Institute of Life Sciences informed that the 246 samples of people, mostly foreign returnees, were instead detected with other variants of Covid-19 virus.

On the other hand, the Odisha Public Health Director informed that the department has the data of 1,286 travelers who have returned to Odisha, out of which, most of them are concentrated in Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam and Angul districts.

Meanwhile, the state government is taking all adequate steps to ensure that all the travelers are traced out and tested.
