As India’s food delivery culture continues to grow rapidly, 2025 has once again confirmed biryani’s unchallenged position as the country’s most ordered dish.

Biryani: The Undisputed Champion
In 2025, biryani was ordered approximately 194 times per minute, or over three plates every second on the Swiggy platform. This marks a noticeable increase from the previous year, underscoring an even stronger affinity for this dish.
Within the biryani category, chicken biryani led the way, contributing the majority of orders (around 57.7 million) and achieving the highest rate of repeat purchases.
This continued dominance reflects biryani’s deep cultural roots, versatility, and appeal across age groups and regions- whether enjoyed as a quick lunch, late-night dinner, or celebratory meal.
Top Ordered Foods Beyond Biryani
Though biryani maintained the top spot, 2025 also revealed a diverse range of dishes that Indians ordered in large numbers, blending traditional favorites with global comfort foods:
1. Burgers
With 44.2 million orders, burgers stood as the second most ordered food item.
Chicken burgers led in popularity, followed closely by vegetarian versions.
2. Pizzas
Pizza lovers ordered roughly 40.1 million pizzas, making it the third most ordered category.
Margherita and other classic variants remained crowd favourites.
3. Dosas and South Indian Staples
Veg dosa recorded about 26.2 million orders, reinforced by strong demand for other South Indian dishes such as idli and medu vada.
4. Snacks & Traditional Combos
Snack items maintained high ordering rates during peak afternoon hours (3 PM to 7 PM).
Favourites included chicken rolls, chicken nuggets, and the classic chai-samosa combination.
Desserts and Global Flavours on the Rise
The report highlighted that desserts and global cuisines played a significant role in India’s 2025 food orders: White chocolate cake, chocolate cake, and gulab jamun were among the most ordered dessert items.
International flavours found a growing audience too, with Mexican cuisine crossing 16 million orders and Tibetan dishes exceeding 12 million, while Korean cuisine also saw notable traction.
Regional Diversity and Emerging Trends
While classic staples dominated overall orders, several regional cuisines saw exceptional growth:
Pahari cuisine orders grew ninefold compared to the previous year.
Malabari, Rajasthani, and Malvani cuisines nearly doubled their order volumes, reflecting wider regional representation in mainstream delivery data.
This trend underscores how Indians are increasingly embracing hyper-local and authentic regional foods, even as global dishes find their place.
