The remnant of Cyclonic storm Asani has weakened into a Depression after the storm made landfall between Machilipatnam and Narsapur of Andhra coast last night, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
The SRC further said that the cyclonic storm is presently lying off Andhra Pradesh coast and it will recurve after the landfall and may enter the sea by tomorrow morning.
Under the impact of the cyclonic storm, several parts of Odisha received light to moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday reviewed the cyclone situation with district collectors and superintendents of police.

The mysterious chariot washed ashore at Sunnapalli coast on Tuesday evening. The structure resembles the shape of a monastery. Locals say the chariot may have washed ashore due to high tidal waves from Thailand, Japan, Cambodia, Indonesia or Malaysia.

The district collector held meeting with all senior officials on Tuesday and chalked out strategies to deal with any eventuality arising out of the cyclonic storm.
The severe cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ over west-central Bay of Bengal moved north-westwards with a speed of 12 kmph during past six hours and weakened into a Cyclonic Storm, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Bhalla directed the Central ministries and agencies to keep a regular watch on the developments and be in touch with the administrations of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for any help.
The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) designated IMD as one of the five Regional Specialised Meteorological Centres (RSMCs) for Tropical Cyclones set up across the globe. Each of these are given the task of issuing advisories for the geographical areas assigned by the WMO.
The fishermen have been advised not to venture in the sea for next 48 hours. The IMD is updating the situation to the people through the messages on social media.
Asani is moving towards the Andhra coast. A red alert has been issued for Andhra. It is expected to reach the west-central Bay of Bengal close to Kakinada or Vishakhapatnam by morning.
