Cyclone Asani: All schools shut in Malkangiri

The district administration of Malkangiri has announced closure of all government and private schools today in view of cyclonic storm Asani.

The district collector held meeting with all senior officials on Tuesday and chalked out strategies to deal with any eventuality arising out of the cyclonic storm.   

Senior officials have been entrusted with responsibilities of looking after all arrangements to mitigate the impact of the storm.    

Since the district has hilly areas, incessant rain generally triggers to flood like situation. Therefore, all arrangements have been made accordingly, said a senior official of the district administration. 

The administration has also ordered shifting of all pregnant women to safer places as a precautionary measure.     

The impact of the storm was seen in Malkangiri with rain lashing several parts of the district since the wee hours today. The district also experienced rainfall activities yesterday. 

As the district is under the yellow warning of the IMD, the district administration has made all arrangements. Two ODRAF teams-one each at Malkangiri and  Kalimela-have been mobilised in the district.
