Cape Town: Jacques Kallis defied a painful rib injury to hammer an unbeaten half century as South Africa recovered from early jolts to reach 212 for six at tea on the fourth day of the third and final cricket Test against India here on Wednesday.

The hosts lost the wicket of Ashwell Prince early in the post-lunch session but Kallis and Mark Boucher pulled the team out of the pits with an unfinished 82-run partnership for the seventh wicket after being 130 for six at one stage.
