Sources privy to the development said the Committee led by former Comptroller and Auditor General V K Shunglu is racing against time to collaborate and compile all documents related to projects executed by different departments in the run up to the mega sporting event held in October last year.
They said the committee, whose tenure will expire on Tuesday, may write to Prime Minister Office seeking more time to complete its investigation to ascertain financial and managerial lapses in the conduct of the Games and related projects.
The sources said the high-level committee, set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon after the Games were over, has collected official documents running upto several thousands from different central and state government departments and is still studying them to find the wrong doings.
They said the Committee would ask for additional time of 10 days to a month to finalise its finding and submit its report to the PMO. A formal request by the panel in this regard is likely to be sent to the PMO tomorrow.
Shunglu refused to comment when contacted by PTI for his response over the matter.
The Prime Minister had on October 25 last year appointed the committee and asked it to give its report within three months.
Former Secretary of Department of Personnel and Training, Shantanu Consul, is also a member of the high-powered panel.
Several projects done by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Public Works Department (PWD), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), RITES (a government of India enterprise), Sports Ministry, Urban Development Ministry and Games Organising Committee among others are under the scanner of enforcement, investigating and vigilance agencies for alleged bunglings.
The Committee has sought help from people to share any information on CWG which could be of some help to it.
The Central Vigilance Commission is enquiring into over 30 complaints related to alleged corruption in Games works carried out by different civic and construction agency.
It includes overlays works, workforce selection, hiring of equipment and public relation related projects executed by OC.
Besides, the Central Bureau of Investigation has registered four FIRs naming some of the close aides of OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi for alleged criminal conspiracy and financial irregularities in executing certain contracts.
CBI has also questioned Kalmadi in connection with its cases.
Besides, Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate are also involved in the investigations related to certain Games projects.
