On the occasion, WWF-India launched its new campaign calling for a greater investment for renewable energy. The campaign under the slogan, 'Seize Your Power', seeks better policies, increased investments and greater public awareness towards renewable energy.
"This year-long global initiative will look at the crucial need to reduce dependence on fossil fuel based power production, and urge governments, investors and organisations to make the right investment decisions that look at the real risks, costs and benefits of renewable energy vis-a-vis fossil fuels," a WWF-India release said.
Greenpeace along with 92.7 BIG FM organised a "bike-a- thon" at Dilli Haat to highlight that Delhiites have the power to generate their own uninterrupted and clean supply of power by installing solar panels on their rooftops.
To promote environment journalism in India, German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the Forum of Environmental Journalists in India and The Third Pole announced that they are jointly organising a competition for best reports on environment issues in urban India.
"The entries should deal with pollution, protection or sustainable management of air, water, soil and other resources in urban and industrial settings. They can also be about the way cities and industries are coping with climate change effects," a release said.
Soft drink major Coca-Cola India came together with its bottling partners to popularise energy efficiency across its operations in the country, with a focus on the need for renewable energy to drive business sustainability.
Tata Power said its nationwide energy conservation movement, 'Club Enerji', led by school children, organised a "unique visit" to Tata Power's Hydro Power Plant in Khopoli.
Electronics asset management company Attero and telecom tower company Indus Towers Ltd were among the other firms that pledged to protect environment and promote sustainable initiatives to reduce carbon emission.
