"Every day, although there are agreements and commitments, countries like the US, countries in the West, continue to pollute and continue to raise the pollution, without even so much as an apology or without feeling anyway burdened by the kind of pollution that they are bringing about," she said.
On the other hand, developing countries were taking voluntary actions (to control emissions), she said inaugurating a Business Ethics conference organised by Loyola Institute of Business Administration here.
Defending India`s stance during the climate change meet in Durban recently, she said equity was at the heart of any action on climate change and NX 1 or developed countries have to pay for their "greatest damage" they caused to environment.
"...the Durban platform was concluded under the UNCCC (United Nations Convention on Climate Change) and the convention makes it absolutely clear and applicable to all parties that equity is at the heart of any action and any agreement on climate change," she said.
Referring to a Stockholm Institute`s study which found that developing countries were actually contributing far more to counter the effects of climate change than any developed country, she said India was doing a "huge amount" of work through its National Action Plan on Climate Change. "We have voluntarily offered internationally that by 2020 we will reduce the intensity of our energy emissions up to 20 to 25 per cent," she said.
