In a twist to the murder of traffic constable Subhamitra, Commissionerate Police unearthed on Wednesday a dark past linked to the accused Deepak Rout — now suspected of serial killings.

The police have revealed that Deepak did not just murder Subhamitra but was also involved in the killing of his first wife, Aparna Priyadarshini, back in March 2022.
Initially reported as a road accident near Radhakishorepur under Khuntuni police limits, the case has taken a disturbing turn after police reopened the investigation. New forensic and testimonial evidence has now confirmed it was not an accident but murder — and Deepak himself orchestrated it.
Aparna’s post-mortem report was re-examined by an independent medical board, which concluded that the injuries did not match those typical of a vehicular accident. This revelation has been pivotal in confirming the homicidal nature of the case.
Police have questioned multiple people linked to the original case — including Aparna’s family, former IOs, Khuntuni police officials, medical staff, and even Deepak’s relatives who were present during her post-mortem.
Accused Deepak, who has now been lodged in Bhubaneswar’s Jharpada jail, will soon undergo a lie detection test. It is said that during interrogation, he made statements that further implicated him in the series of crimes.
However, no comments were received from the Commissionerate Police in this regard.
“Deepak Rout was the suspect right from the beginning. However, despite the suspicion, no evidence was available. It is because Subhamitra had expressed in one of her chat messages (on a messaging platform) around two weeks ago (before September 6) that she was frustrated and had desired to hide somewhere,” Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh had previously stated while speaking to mediapersons.
“Initially, we thought, perhaps she had gone incommunicado. As she was an ardent devotee of Krishna, we had to launch a manhunt at several religious places,” the top cop had added in the press conference held in Bhubaneswar following Deepak’s arrest.
