In a shocking incident, a man reportedly killed his brother-in-law by chopping off his private parts and slitting his throat over a minor family dispute at Panasia village in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Mithun Behera of Panasia village, while the accused has been identified as the brother-in-law, Kanhei Behera.
According to sources, Kanhei had been staying at Mithun’s house, where he was working as a mason. Sources said that on Friday night, a heated quarrel broke out between the accused Kanhei and Mithun’s elder brother, Rasik Behera.
During the altercation, Rasik reportedly assaulted Kanhei in a fit of rage. Enraged over the incident, Kanhei allegedly plotted revenge.

On Saturday morning, he reportedly lured Mithun away from home on the pretext of drinking country liquor. Once they were some distance away, Kanhei attacked Mithun with a sharp blade, brutally slashing his neck and private parts, leading to his death on the spot.
“Last evening, he came home and asked for food. He was angry because I slapped him. The accused is Kanhei Behera, my brother-in-law. There was no fight earlier. He called my brother at around 3 am at night on the pretext of drinking liquor. Family members advised him not to go. But, he took him and murdered him,” alleged Rasik Behera.
After the incident, the accused fled the scene. Police from Jajpur Road station reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem. The weapon used in the crime has also been seized.
“Scientific teams have been roped in for investigation, and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused,” said a police official.
The incident has triggered tension and shock in the locality.
