The menace of ragging continues unabated in educational institutions across Odisha with another student alleging torture by seniors in Nabrangpur district.

The fresh ragging incident was reported from Nabrangpur Polytechnic College where a student was allegedly subjected to ragging and was beaten by his seniors on the institute premises.

As per the allegations, Bajrang Panjia, a second-year Mechanical student of the Polytechnic College was mentally harassed by his seniors. A few boys from the senior batch even allegedly thrashed him.

“The third-year students had a meeting and called me. Where they tried to snatch my mobile phone and one of the students named Lipun Swain punched me in my face,” said Bajrang.

On the other hand, the accused third-year student, Lipun Swain, has refuted the ragging allegations and said that “There has been no ragging.” He also denied hitting Bajrang.

Meanwhile, the college authorities have denied the ragging charges and said that it was only a clash between the juniors and seniors.

“Our institute is ragging-free. There s no truth in the incident. They are only creating an issue out of a trivial incident,” asserted Baijaynta Kumar Ray, principal of the college.

However, Bajrang’s family members alleged that the college has remained indifferent towards ragging allegations on the campus and filed a complaint against the senior student at Nabarangpur Police station demanding strict action.

Earlier, a video of a ragging incident at Binayak Acharya College in Berhampur had gone viral on social media following which five students involved in the incident were rusticated from the college.
