Low-pressure area forms over Bay of Bengal, likely to intensify: IMD
A low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean near the eastern equatorial region. According to weather observations, the system developed at around 5:30 PM on January 5.
Meteorological sources indicate that the low-pressure area is likely to become well-marked and intensify further within the next 24 hours.
Weather agencies are closely monitoring the system for further developments. Further updates are anticipated as the situation develops.
Meanwhile, several parts of Odisha are likely to shiver under the cold wave. From today and over the next four days, the night temperatures across the state are expected to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. In the last 24 hours, the impact of cold has increased in several districts, including the hilly and plain areas of Kandhamal and Koraput districts.
The Meteorological Centre has predicted that interior Odisha and southern Odisha will continue to experience cold conditions. Along with severe cold, the state is also likely to witness the impact of dense fog.
Over the past 24 hours, dense fog has been observed in Boudh district, with visibility reducing to as low as 20 metres. Similar fog conditions were also reported from Balangir, Koraput, and Kandhamal districts.
According to the weather department, dense fog is likely to prevail during early morning and morning hours in many districts of Odisha over the next four days.
