Flight operations at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar have been disrupted due to dense fog conditions on Sunday. Light fog enveloped the airport area in the state capital at around 6:30 am, reducing visibility to 500 metres.
More than 10 flights have been delayed due to poor visibility, triggering crowding at the airport and causing inconvenience to travellers.
Several flights have been rescheduled; however, no cancellations have been reported so far. Airport authorities have also confirmed that no flights were diverted despite the dense fog conditions. The delayed services include flights operating to Guwahati, Mumbai, Delhi, and Prayagraj.
“I had come to see off my son, but his flight was rescheduled from 8 am to 10 am. We understand the delay due to dense fog, but the airport authorities should ensure proper arrangements for passenger comfort. Adequate seating and drinking water facilities should be provided so that passengers do not face inconvenience inside the terminal,” said a passenger’s relative.

Earlier, at least three flights were cancelled, and five others were delayed at Biju Patnaik International Airport as runway visibility fell below operational minimums.
Dense fog persists in Bhubaneswar as the IMD warns of similar conditions till January 7. On Sunday, several districts of Odisha, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, and Nayagarh districts, experienced very dense fog.
