Cuttack police have initiated a detailed investigation into the death of singer Humane Sagar, with all individuals named in the First Information Report (FIR) set to be formally summoned and examined, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Additional DCP) Amarendra Panda said on Tuesday.
Speaking on the progress of the case, Panda confirmed that the investigation has begun based on the FIR filed by Humane Sagar’s mother. He said notices would be issued to all those whose names appear in the complaint, and each of them would fall within the scope of the probe.
“The case will proceed strictly as per the law. All evidence and witnesses will be examined. Since an FIR has been registered, everyone named will be summoned and interrogated,” Panda said.
FIR filed By Mother Triggers Probe
The police action follows a formal complaint lodged by Humane Sagar’s mother, Shefali Suna, who approached the Markatnagar police station in Cuttack seeking a fair and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.
In her complaint, Suna named multiple individuals, including Humane Sagar’s wife, Shriya Mishra and Arpita Choudhary. Shefali stated that she was not assigning blame at the time of filing the FIR but wanted all aspects related to her son’s personal and professional life to be examined without prejudice.
Police sources said the investigation would examine all allegations mentioned in the FIR, including claims related to mental distress, personal relationships, and other factors highlighted by the complainant.
Multiple Complaints Add To Scrutiny
The case has gained further attention following earlier complaints filed by various individuals and organisations.
Filmmaker Jitu Raut had previously approached Madhupatna Police Station, seeking an inquiry into Humane Sagar’s financial affairs and professional management. Some local organisations have also submitted complaints against the singer’s managers, calling for a comprehensive investigation.
The FIR also refers to allegations that Humane Sagar’s earnings were not handled transparently and that concerns regarding his condition were ignored by those associated with his professional work.
Humane Sagar passed away on November 17 while undergoing intensive treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar for more than 72 hours. He was aged 36.
