In a significant crackdown ahead of the festive season, Angul Police raided and seized an illegal foreign liquor manufacturing unit on Thursday. During the operation, authorities recovered thousands of counterfeit liquor bottles of multiple popular brands, alongside huge quantities of spirits, empty bottles, caps, brand stickers, and flavoring agents used to produce fake alcohol.
The illegal operation was being run from a secluded two-storied building in the Sikhyakpada area of Angul. As per reports, two individuals have been detained in connection with the case, while the main operator is absconding.
The raid is part of a broader initiative to curb the circulation of toxic and counterfeit alcohol, which poses a serious threat to public health. Every festive season witnesses a spike in alcohol consumption, increasing the risk of poisoning from adulterated liquor.
Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious, avoid buying alcohol from unknown sources, and report any suspicious liquor outlets immediately. Police emphasized that consuming counterfeit alcohol can be dangerous and even fatal, and community vigilance is crucial to ensure safety during the celebrations. The investigation is ongoing, and further action is expected against those involved.
