The Bolangir police claimed cracked the sensational murder attempt case on hotelier Shibadayal Jain of Titilagarh, revealing a shocking contract killing plot during a press briefing on Friday.
According to Bolangir SP, the mastermind behind the conspiracy, Ankur Agrawal, had allegedly offered Rs 5 lakh supari (contract) to Bhaktabandhu Kharseil and Naresh Kumar Behera to eliminate Jain.
Acting on the deal, the duo attempted to murder the hotel owner by ramming a Bolero vehicle into him. However, Jain narrowly escaped the attack.
Sources said, Ankur had given Rs 40,000 in advance to the duo and assured to make the rest payments once Jain is eliminated.
Police had earlier arrested Ankur Agrawal, the alleged mastermind, while the two hired contract killers were arrested on Thursday and later produced before the Court.
The SP further informed that another case has been registered against Ankur Agrawal at Sindhekela police station for allegedly using a fake SIM card to send obscene photos and blackmail individuals.
Ankur is a local leader and associated with several influential persons. So police carefully collected all evidence against him and later forwarded him to the Court, sources said.
As per the official police release, Ankur was obsessed with Jain’s wife and was allegedly blackmailing his wife by sending obscene photos through fake SIMs. As it did not yield any results, he planned to eliminate Jain.

The police are now planning to take Ankur Agrawal on police remand for a day for further interrogation to uncover more details about his criminal activities and possible associates involved in the plot.
