Bhubaneswar: In the background of projections that Odisha may witness a possible revival of Covid-19 infection during winter, the second week of December seems to hold the key in the on-going battle against coronavirus.
If at all there is possible second wave in Odisha, it will be between December 15 and January 15, as per the projection.
Earlier on Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed officials to enforce Covid-19 guidelines strictly in different parts of the State in order to avoid a second wave of infection after mid-December.
While reviewing the prevailing coronavirus situation in the state, Patnaik said that the people of Odisha should remain alert in order to avoid the second wave of COVID-19 infections.
Experts meanwhile, said that the level of pollution is usually high during winter. It leads to a rise in respiratory infections which includes cold, cough and fever.
Moreover, keeping in mind the lethality of the virus strains detected in countries which are witnessing a second wave of coronavirus outbreak during cold seasons, it is likely the strains to spread during the second wave in the State could be more virulent.
Though there are no reports about the new strain of the virus in India, people need to be extra cautious and prevent the outbreak in the best possible way, said health expert, Niraj Mishra.
According to Mishra, the Covid-19 second wave cannot be ruled out as many European countries and the USA are witnessing a steep rise in cases again and similar is also anticipated in the country as well with gradual reopening of economy and unlock measures.
Due to such unlock measures, people are now moving out and congregating in different places. Hence, utmost care and strict observance of Covid-19 norms have now become a must for all, Mishra said.
“The viral infection cases usually go up in winter and due to unlock measures, there is possibility of rise in Covid-19 cases. Post Covid hospitals are coming up in different parts of the country and such facilities should also be set up in Odisha,” Mishra added.
