Puri: Heavy cleaning and sanitation drive are currently being carried out at Puri Railway Station as the East Coast Railway is scheduled to resume services of its three trains from here today.

As per the data shared by the Indian Railways, three pairs of trains including Puri-Ahmedabad, Puri-Durg, and Puri-New Delhi will run from the holy town with strict adherence to Covid-19 regulations.

The weekly Puri-Ahmadabad Express will leave the station at 5.30 PM and will run on Tuesday Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Puri-Durg Express will start from Puri Railway Station at 6.30 PM while the Puri-New Delhi train will leave at 9.45 PM.

Train services from Puri were halted in March due to the novel coronavirus outbreak and subsequent countrywide-lockdown in order to contain the virus spread.

The Railways will run the trains while adhering to all the Covid-19 norms which include thermal screening, social distancing, use of masks and sanitizers, etc.

Adequate Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel are being deployed at the railway station to ensure passengers abide by the Covid-19 restrictions.

Puri RPF Inspector, Anil Kumar Singh said,” We will ensure passengers maintain social distancing while boarding the train and unauthorised persons or persons without reservation tickets do not enter the station. Besides, we will check if the passengers are wearing masks.”

The East Coast Railway has also decided to run a pair of Sealdah-Bhubaneswar special train up to Puri. While the Sealdah-Bhubaneswar train leaving Sealdah will terminate at Puri with effect from October 2, the Bhubaneswar-Sealdah special train will originate from Puri with effect from October 3.
