Cuttack: Two persons were arrested by the Choudwar Police for allegedly selling fake gold bar for Rs 5 lakh to a business in the area here.

The two arrested persons have been identified as Bijay Behera of Tala Bazaar and Sangram Mohanta of OTM Colony in Choudwar area of the district. Mohanta natively hails from Samastipur of Bihar.

A complaint in this regard was lodged at the Choudwar Police Station by the victim, Sujit Kumar Maharana.

Few days back, Behera and Mohanty approached Maharana with some gold bars and even showed him the sample pieces for testing. Later, Maharana ordered a gold bar after testing the sample.

On October 26, the duo delivered the gold bar to Maharana and left with the payment. When Maharana checked the quality of the gold bar again on the same day, he realised it to be fake.

Police have also recovered Rs 1.45 lakh, fake gold bar weighing 900 grams and two mobile phones from their possession.

"Two persons have been arrested while the others involved in the fraud case will be nabbed soon," informed the IIC of Choudwar Police, Biranchi Narayan Pati through a press release.
