Bhubaneswar: Panic struck the Employee’s State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital Colony at Jayadev Vihar here after a youth residing there tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

Following the report, the youth was immediately shifted to the KIMS COVID hospital for treatment.

As per reports, the 25-year-old youth is the son of an Insurance Medical Officer (IMO) in-charge at ESI dispensary in Saheed Nagar and worked for a software company. He had developed mild symptoms after celebrating his birthday with friends three days back.

The Superintendent of ESI hospital, Dr Dillip Sahu said, “There are around 34 quarters in the colony of which six have been allotted to doctors while class-III and IV employees are staying in the remaining quarters.”

“I had contacted BMC officials immediately after the youth's test report came out positive. He has already been admitted to the KIMS COVID hospital and the civic authorities will undertake surveillance and contact tracing exercise in the area,” said Sahu.

An increasing number of private hospitals in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are becoming COVID hotspots, raising serious concerns. Recently, Blue Wheel hospital in Mancheswar area was sealed by the BMC for violating COVID-19 guidelines.

Similarly, in recent times, some government-run hospitals in Cuttack have contributed to a large number of positive cases to the State's tally. As many as 107 persons including staff, patients and attendants of Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital (AHRCC) have tested Covid-19 positive till today.
