Bhubaneswar: Akash Pathak, son of arrested IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak, was on Tuesday sent to judicial custody after completion of his five-day remand by the Odisha Crime Branch.

The CB had taken Akash on five-day remand for further interrogation in connection with fraud allegations against his name.

After completion of the remand, he was produced before the court of sub divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) here today and subsequently sent to the judicial custody.

Pathak, who introduced himself as the MD of Tata Motors, has allegedly cheated several job seekers to the tune of crores of rupees on the pretext of providing them employment in the company.

Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi was also earlier arrested by the probe agency for his alleged connivance in the job fraud. Panigrahi has been accused of collecting money from the job seekers on behalf of Akash in the fake recruitment drive.

The Tata Motors had filed an FIR against Akash alleging that he had duped many unemployed youths on the pretext of providing them jobs at the Tata Motors Limited. Akash allegedly impersonated himself as MD of Tata Motors Pune Passenger Division and CEO designate, stated the FIR copy.

However, Akash while being taken to court last week, told reporters that he was associated with Tata Motors but the company is not supporting him now. “It is a conspiracy against me and my family. We are not allowed to speak anything now. I will reveal everything and give all the details after I come out,” Akash had said.

Notably, Akash and his father Abhay Pathak were in judicial custody following their arrests on November 27 in a disproportionate assets case filed by the vigilance department.
