Bhubaneswar: A thirty four-year-old SOG Havildar died following a hand grenade explosion reportedly during a training exercise at the Chandaka training centre on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Prakash Sahoo, a resident of Katapali village in Bargarh district.

Sources said that at the Chandaka Centre, SOG (Special Operations Group) cadets are trained in anti-extremist and anti-insurgency operations. Lobbing grenade was one of the training exercises that the cadets were undertaking when the mishap occurred. Prakash, a trainer, sustained multiple injuries after a grenade exploded mid-air during training at around 3 PM on Tuesday. Later, Prakash succumbed to injuries.

Two other cadets, Sergeant Barsha Hansdah and Sergeant Subhakant Sahu sustained injuries in the accident too, who along with the deceased SOG Havildar were admitted to SUM hospital in Bhubaneswar. Barsha, who was grievously injured, is stated to be stable, while Subhakant's injuries were reported to be minor ones.
