Bhubaneswar: Several districts in Odisha have been put on alert in view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) heavy rainfall forecast in the next few days.

As per the latest weather bulletin, a fresh Low pressure area is likely to form over the east central Bay of Bengal by tomorrow.

Squally weather with a wind speed reaching 40-50 Kmph is also likely to prevail over the central Bay of Bengal between October 19 and 23.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over East-central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood between 2.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a Low pressure area is very likely to develop over the same region during the next 24 hours. It is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours,” said Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar in a statement.

Under the influence of the system, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at several districts of Odisha in the next few days.

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hours of October 19)

Light to moderate rain/ thundershower likely to occur at many places over the districts of South coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of North coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and isolated places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning ( Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 Hrs of October 19 to 0830 Hrs of October 20)

Light to moderate rain/ thundershower likely in South Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and at a few places of South Odisha, North coastal Odisha and at isolated places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 Hrs of October 20 to 0830 Hrs of October 21)

Light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of North coastal Odisha, South interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts of North interior Odisha.

Orange Warning (Be prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam and Gajapati.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Puri.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 Hrs of October 21 to 0830 Hrs of October 22)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 Hrs of October 22 to 0830 Hrs of October 23)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of South Interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts North Interior Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapara.
