Puri: A day after the district administration lifted the restrictions imposed on the conduct of cremations at Swargadwara, sanitisation drive begun at the holy cremation ground on Tuesday.

According to sources, the fire brigade carried out sanitisation at the crematorium and its office to make the premises contamination free.

Following the lifting of the curbs, people from other districts in the State can now come to Puri to conduct the last rites of their loved ones at the crematorium abiding by all Covid-19 restrictions.

All the existing COVID-19 protocols, including ban on congregation of more than 20 persons during funerals, will be strictly followed along with the mandatory use of masks and social distancing norms.

On July 7, the Puri district administration had barred cremation of the bodies from outside the district at Swargadwar. Such restrictions were clamped owing to rising COVID-19 cases.
