Kendrapara: A woman has accused the Rajkanika Police in Kendrapara of being partial in its investigation based on a complaint filed by her with regard to her husband's alleged kidnapping. She has claimed that the way police is carrying out the probe is unprofessional and biased, and further cited that the cops are showing favouritism towards the accused.

The incident has been reported from Biswanathpur village under Rajkanika Koilipur panchayat here. The woman Pratima Behera in her complaint stated that her husband Pitambar Behera had taken a loan from one Lalit Behera - a private money lender from Gokaneswar Mouj - for a prawn cultivation structure (ghery). "However, an argument erupted after my husband failed to return the money on time. On September 29, when my husband was on his way to Rajkanika hospital, he was abducted by Lalit Behera. When I lodged a complaint, police rescued my husband from Lalit's house but instead of taking any action against the accused, the cops detained my husband for hours for questioning," the woman alleged.

I will fast unto death if justice is denied to my husband, Pratima has threatened, adding that she will continue with her protest outside the police station.

The accused has however refuted the woman's allegations terming them baseless and far from truth.

"As partners, they were engaged in prawn farming in the area and there was some squabble between both of them related to business. Now, there are allegations that Pitambar was doing farming and the other person has sold all the farm-produce. We have sought details of the land patta. Further investigation is on," said Sanjib Ranabhainsa, Rajkanika PS IIC.
