Cuttack: Odisha Police on Wednesday paid homage to the policemen who laid down their lives in the line of duty, on the occasion of 61st Police Commemoration Day at State Police Headquarters in Cuttack.

Tributes were also paid to 41 personnel of the Odisha Police who lost their lives this year during State's battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Odisha Police DGP Abhay attended the event as chief guest. "At least 41 cops of different ranks from the State Police laid their lives during the battle against Covid-19. I express my gratitude for those police personnel and their family members," said Abhay while conveying his condolences to the family members of the martyred policemen.

"I also want to thank the policemen who are working 24X7 to ensure people follow coronavirus restrictions strictly and appreciate them who are coming forward for plasma donation," added the DGP.

The cops paid floral tributes to the martyrs during the event. The police band also paid tributes to the martyred cops. A two-minute silent prayer was observed by the police personnel during the event.

Similarly, the Twin City Commissioner of Police, Sudhanshu Sarangi paid homage to the martyred police personnel by lying wreath at the Sahid Memorial in Reserve Police Line Ground in Bhubaneswar. A parade was also organised here on the occasion.

The National Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 to pay homage to the ten CRPF jawans who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops in the year 1959 at Hot Spring in Ladakh.
