Bolangir: Claims by the Odisha government to provide healthcare to all received another crude jolt as doctors in Patnagarh govt hospital were forced to administer emergency treatment on trauma patients under the light of a mobile phone torch.

The incident came to fore on Sunday following a road accident near Patnagarh that left several people injured. The victims were brought to the hospital by a 108 ambulance for emergency care, but for the utter dismay of the patients and the doctors, the power went off immediately.

As per reports, the 10-year-old electricity backup generator at the hospital broke down too.

The Medical Officer In-Charge of Patnagarh hospital said, “We already have an inverter in the hospital but it is evidently inadequate. We have ordered more inverters to supplement.”

Urging the authorities to supply a brand new generator he said, “The generator is very old, so I request the district administration to provide us a high throughput generator to assist us during power outages.”
