Bhubaneswar: A day after the Odisha government recommended the Centre to involve National Investigating Agency (NIA) in the ongoing probe into Puri train fire case, DGP KB Singh said the incident has ramification in different parts of the country.
Speaking exclusively to OTV, Singh said, “The Puri incident is not a solitary one. Before this, similar kind of incidents occurred in Gaya, Kharagpur and Hyderbad. We decided to seek cooperation from the NIA as it is a specialized agency to deal such type of cases.”
Singh added besides, the State police will learn from the expertise of the NIA, which is a specialized agency, and share information.
Further, Singh stated, “We have interrogated the accused for two weeks after taking him in remand. The accused revealed that he has many accomplices who are residing in different parts of the country.”
On a query when the NIA is expected to arrive here, Singh said, “The Central government will decide about that.”
Notably, on November 12, five empty bogies, two each of Nandankanan Express and Tirupati Express and one coach of Puri-Howrah Express were gutted completely while they were kept at the Puri railway station.
Ramachandran Subash, a native of Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district, is the only person to be arrested in connection with the arson so far.
