In a dramatic development, Samir Modi, the younger brother of fugitive businessman and former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, has been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with a rape case. The arrest adds a new layer of controversy to the man already embroiled in a bitter family and corporate feud.
Arrest at Delhi Airport
Samir, Executive Director of Modi Enterprises, was detained at Delhi airport upon his return from abroad. He was produced in court and subsequently remanded to police custody, officials confirmed. The arrest follows an ongoing investigation into the long-pending case, police sources said IANS.
Feud Within the Modi Empire
Samir is the son of Godfrey Phillips India chairperson Bina Modi and the youngest of three siblings alongside Lalit Modi and Charu Modi. He has been at the heart of disputes over the family’s Rs 11,000-crore inheritance left behind by their late father, industrialist KK Modi.
In August 2024, Samir was removed from the Godfrey Phillips board after clashing with his mother and other directors. The feud escalated further in May 2024 when he alleged that his mother’s security personnel and certain board members physically assaulted him during a board meeting, leaving him with a broken finger.

Legal Battles Continue
While Godfrey Phillips dismissed his assault allegations as 'entirely false and atrocious,' Samir went on to file a police complaint against his mother. He was also accused of defamation by three independent directors but was acquitted by a south Delhi court earlier this year.
With his latest arrest on rape charges, Samir Modi now faces his most serious legal battle yet, deepening the turmoil surrounding the Modi business empire.
