Nuapada: A group of around 15 armed Maoists on Sunday torched at least 7 vehicles used in road construction in a bid to disrupt construction process at Sirigiri in Odisha’s Nuapada district bordering Chhattishgarh, police said.
Sources said a group of armed rebels attacked the contractor’s camp at Sirigiri and torched the vehicles used in the road construction work. However, no one was injured in the incident.
The members of the outlawed group torched three water tankers, two mixture machines and a roller machine used in road construction, reports added.
“The Maoists have set ablaze some vehicles and machines of a construction company and on being informed about it our team has intensified the combing operation in the area,” said Nuapada SP Pinak Mishra.
The Red Rebels are opposed to all developmental activities such as road construction and schools among others in a bid to strengthen their base in the area, the SP added.
Meanwhile, security forces have intensified combing operation in the area.
