Hours after Odisha unit of Congress party formally submitted a no-confidence motion today against the State government, citing failures on unemployment, corruption, and stalled development, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) held an important meeting at Naveen Niwas, the residence of party supremo and Odisha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik, in Bhubaneswar.

The meeting was attended by several senior leaders, including Prasanna Acharya, Pramila Mallik, and Niranjan Pujari.

Senior BJD leader Prasanna Acharya clarified that the party would take the right decision at the right moment.

“No decision has been taken by the party (BJD) yet. The party will take a decision at the right moment. We learnt today from the media that a notice has been served for a no-confidence motion. The Assembly Speaker has not yet accepted the notice,” the BJD leader said.

“She (the Speaker) has not announced anything as to when she will accept the notice and when the no-confidence motion will be debated. Ame Nai Na Dekhunu Langala Kahinki Hebu (why should we hurry). We will act when the situation comes,” BJD’s Acharya stated.

Worth mentioning, Odisha unit of Congress party has formally submitted a no-confidence motion today against the State government, citing failures on unemployment, corruption, and stalled development.

The move was backed by a lone CPI(M) legislator, setting the stage for an upcoming debate in the Legislative Assembly. Notably, the no-confidence motion was moved on the very first day of monsoon session of the Assembly.
