Baripada: A 10-year-old tribal girl died and an elderly woman sustained minor injury when the mud wall of their house copllapsed due to attack by a herd of elephants in Mayurbhanj district today.
The deceased identified as Golapi Purti of Khuntapada village under Raruan police station area in the jurisdiction of Karanjia Forest Division, police said adding that she died on the spot.
"The girl died as the mud wall of her house fell on her due to attack by a herd of elepheants," said Karanjia DFO Asish Ranjan Behera.
Behera said a herd of about 30 elephants have trespassed to Karanjia area from the neighbouring Jharkhand.
"We have been trying to drive away elephants from the human habiation area," he said.
