Rayagada: Inspector General (IG) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Operations, Piyush Anand on Wednesday reviewed anti-Maoist operations in the district.
After arriving at the district headquarters in a special helicopter on Tuesday afternoon, the Anand reviewed anti-Maoist operations with top CRPF and Odisha police officials at the CRPF’s 8th Battalion campus on Wednesday.
CRPF DIG Trilochana Khuntia, DIG JPK Ray and several police officials were also present during the review.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Anand said the CRPF personnel are deployed to assist the State and the local police.
“I can assure every individual that the CRPF is committed to act within the ambit of law. If any person has any issue or feelings that something is lacking in the activities of the CRPF personnel, he/she can approach the local police, which, I hope, will provide necessary assistance as per rules. In fact, we analyse the reports from different quarters and take appropriate action wherever necessary,” he added.
The CRPF, with the help of State police, will formulate a strategy to tackle Maoists menace as the Red Rebels are active in six districts.
Meanwhile, as many as 14 families from remote Mahupada village under Mathili police station limits in Malkangiri district left their houses yesterday following Maoists’ threat.
The residents of the tribal village have deserted the hamlet with their belongings and livestock fearing a Maoist onslaught.
The rebels were issuing threats to the villagers in the backdrop of the recent spate of surrenders before the police.
The ultras had accused the villagers of being police informers and gave them an ultimatum to vacate the village.
