Cuttack: The farmer suicide cases in the State show no sign of abating with another peasant committing suicide on Tuesday due to alleged crop loss and debt. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Pradhan of Patanda village under Atagarh block in the district.
Family sources said Sanjay, unable to bear the burden of debt, had consumed poison on November 5 and was admitted to Athagarh health centre. Later he was shifted to the SCB medical college and hospital after his condition deteriorated.
However, he died in the morning while undergoing treatment.
Basant Sahoo, deceased's relative, said-"He had taken some loans from private money lenders who asked him repeatedly to repay. As his crops were damaged by scanty rainfall, he was under severe mental stress over loan recovery".
He had gone to the farm land on November 5 and consumed poison there, Sahoo added.
