Bhubaneswar: The overall COVID-19 situation in Odisha remains grim and there is a possibility of community transmission if urgent measures are not taken by Odisha government, said State Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik on Friday.

In a letter to Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik said people, as well as leaders cutting across party lines, have extended support in the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

The State Congress chief suggested Chief Minister to undertake special measures to contain the Coronavirus infections in the State.

The Congress has urged the State government to expedite testing to 25,000 samples per day apart from concrete measures for contact tracing in the State.

The party has also suggested for conducting 100 per cent testing in areas where cases of COVID-19 infections have been reported. Besides, COVID-19 test of persons being discharged from quarantine centres and COVID hospitals should be made mandatory.

A massive house to house survey should be undertaken with the help of health workers to identify people with COVID-19 symptoms. The drive should also cover all commercial institutions in the State, a letter by Odisha Congress chief read.

The frontline COVID Warriors should be provided with adequate number of PPEs and the government should keep adequate stock of medical equipment and other lifesaving articles and drugs at COVID hospitals.

The number of COVID hospitals should be increased and the State government should make special provision for treatment at private hospitals for those who do not want to get admitted in government centres.
