Odisha Man Fixes Rs 14 Lakh Deposits For Public Welfare, Makes Collector His Nominee

Jagatsinghpur: It is said that the happiest people in the world are the givers and so is the story of the contentment of a man from Jagatsinghpur district.

In a sheer show of humanity and urge to contribute, Basudev, a resident of Sipi under Jagatsinghpur Municipality has made the district collector a nominee for his two fixed deposit accounts, worth Rs 14 lakh.

Though practicing law to eke out a living, Basudev has a strong desire to do good for the society and the nation is making him the happiest man. He even has reportedly shunned his nickname as he believes in a casteless society.

Basudev has made the district collector the nominee in two of his fixed deposit accounts, one worth Rs 2 lakh in his wife’s name in 2016, the other worth Rs 12 lakh deposit in his name in 2019.

“I have been working towards the development of society since 1972. I have made the district collector the nominee of two fixed deposits in order to do something good for my country,” said the law practitioner.

It is being said that Basudev had cut down the expenditure for his two sons’ weddings and donated Rs 50,000 to armed forces and Rs 4 lakh to the trust he founded a few years ago, respectively.

He further says that he wants to donate more before he breathes his last and makes plans to sell his property for the donation to the nation.

“We will be happier if the donation helps the underprivileged and downtrodden. We are married for the past 35 years. My children are all earning and self-dependent. The entire family supports him (Basudev) in the donation,” said Basudev’s wife.

Lauding Basudev for his philanthropy and passion to serve the society, Jagatsinghpur District Collector, Sangram Keshari Mohapatra said the move will inspire the youths and government servants to work for the development of the nation.

“He personally texted and informed me about the donation he wanted to make. He has made the district collector the nominee of his fixed deposits which is inspiring and exemplary,” said Mohapatra.
