Odisha: Elderly Couple Attempts Suicide; Man Dies, Wife Critical

Jagatsinghpur: An elderly couple reportedly attempted to commit suicide together by consuming pesticide over a trivial issue of family feud at Hashina village under Kujang police limits in Jagatsinghpur district. While the man died, the condition of his wife remained critical.

The deceased has been identified as Kalandi Mohanty (84). His wife Sweta Mohanty was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition.

According to reports, a quarrel broke out between the couple on Sunday following which both of them got upset. Later, they consumed pesticides in a bid to kill themselves and became critical.

The family members initially rushed them to Kujang Hospital and later shifted them to Jagatsinghpur. However, Kalandi succumbed while undergoing treatment. Sweta’s condition is still very critical and she is undergoing treatment at SCB hospital.
