Kendrapara/Bhadrak: Two school girls in the state committed suicide after allegedly receiving false news of their failure in Class-10 examinations the results of which were published on Wednesday.

As per reports, a girl student from Balipadar village under Pattamundai Municipality in Kendrapara district hanged herself in her home hours after a friend told her that she had failed in the Class-10 examinations this year.

Arjun Sahu, a relative of the deceased said, “A friend told that she failed to secure passing marks in the examination. Dejected by the news, she decided to hang herself inside her room.”

“However, the school authorities later informed that she had cleared the examination,” added Sahu.

A similar incident was reported from Sugo village in Bhadrak’s Basudevpur block, where a school girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide after receiving false news of failing in the exams.

Deepak Behera, father of the deceased said, “My daughter consumed pesticide and when the news of her actually passing the examination reached, it was too late and she died in the hospital.”

Meanwhile, another girl in Nadigaon village under Soro Police limits of Balasore district also attempted suicide by consuming poison after failing in the exams. Fortunately, she was rushed to Balasore hospital just in time and her health condition is stated to be stable.

The results of Odisha Annual Matric Examination 2020 was declared by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) on Wednesday in with a total of 4,21,256 students were clearing the exam representing a overall success rate of 78.76%.
