Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch on Tuesday seized brown sugar weighing 1.14 kg following a raid in Bhadrak on Monday. The cost of the narcotics in the international market is believed to be over Rs 1 crore.

As per reports, a team of STF conducted a raid at Bhadrak-Chandbali road after getting information about the transportation of the brown sugar consignment yesterday.

The contraband was seized from one Minhaj Quadri of Shankarnagar area in Bhadrak district.  The accused has been booked under section 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.

It is pertinent to mention here that the STF has launched a massive crackdown on illegal narcotics trade that seems to be flourishing in several parts of Odisha.

As per official sources, the STF has been successful in seizing over 2.5 kg of brown sugar following raids in different parts of the State in the last 25 days. Over 2000 kg of Ganja (Dry Cannabis) has also been seized in the special drive.

On January 19, the special task force (STF) of the State Crime Branch along with Commissionerate Police had seized 102 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs 10 lakh from Narayan Basti in Unit 8 area in Bhubaneswar.

Earlier on January 7, the Crime Branch STF had seized Brown Sugar weighing 1 kg 310 grams worth Rs 1.5 crore following a raid in Khordha district.

A peddler, identified as SK Anwar of Kaipadar area was arrested in connection with the incident, senior officials said.
