Subarnapur: 7 people including 4 minors who had hacked into the bank account of a farmer in Subarnapur and looted Rs. 3.7 lakhs from it, were arrested by the police on Monday. The alleged fraud came to light only when the farmer went to the bank to withdraw money and he alerted the bank authorities subsequently before approaching the police.

According to the police, the mastermind of the fraud is a 17 year old boy. Police said he approached the son of the complainant, identified as Raghav Majhi, while the former was playing games on his father’s phone.

On the pretext of transferring some songs to the phone, he allegedly slotted the complainant’s Sim card into his phone. He then quickly managed to transfer money from the farmer’s account into his own account, police said.

The farmer came to know about the fraud when he went to the the bank for withdrawing some money. Upon noticing the fraud he approached the Rampur police station with a complaint.

“I first went to the Rampur police station to lodge a complaint after I found the money missing from my account. The police there told me it was a case of cybercrime so I had to file the FIR in Sambhalpur. Then I went there to file my FIR,” he said. Majhi said following the registration of the offence, the police managed to round up a total of 7 accused which included 4 minors.
