Rourkela: Authorities at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela have directed students to vacate hostels after 14 students tested positive for the covid-19 in the campus.

Only those who have tested negative for the virus will vacate hostel while others who have come in contact with the infected students will stay there, Registrar Pradeep Kumar Dash said. They will undergo RT-PCR test, he added.

Arrangements have been made for testing of remaining students from today, the Registrar said.

"All students of UG, MSc, MA, and MBA programmes are now permitted to leave the campus with RT-PCR negative certificate only (tested at NITR camp). Such students need to vacate their room before leaving the campus. They can take back their luggage or keep the same in the designated places of the Hall with proper levelling," an official communication stated.

On Monday, seven more students had tested positive for the virus at the reputed government engineering college taking the tally to 14. Prior to this, seven positive cases had been detected from the institute. All of them have been kept under isolation, said Rourkela ADM Aboli Sunil Naravane.

In wake of the resurgence in Coronavirus pandemic, the National Institute of Technology (NIT)- Rourkela has decided to conduct their forthcoming semester examinations through online mode.

They all are kept under medical supervision, she added.
