Jagatsinghpur: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Jagatsighpur district on Friday imposed a penalty of Rs 26,000 each on two underage riders for violation of traffic rules under the new MV Act.

The minor duo, a boy and a girl, were caught riding vehicles without wearing helmets at Paradip. They are reportedly in the age group of 15-16.

While a fine of Rs 25,000 each was imposed on them under Section 199A (2) (offences by juveniles) of MV Act, another Rs 1000 each was levied under Section 194D (not wearing of protective head gear as per standard).

The challan was issued by traffic inspector Prasanta Kumar Mohapatro.

On January 19, a minor boy in Pallahara under Angul district was fined Rs 26,000 by the Junior Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) of Talcher RTO.

In December last year, the Regional Transport Office-I in Bhubaneswar had imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 against the owner of a two-wheeler for allowing a minor boy to ride his vehicle.

Moreover, a man from Madhya Pradesh was slapped with an enormous fine of Rs 1,13,500 by the RTO in Rayagada district for allegedly violating various rules of the new motor vehicle act. The penalty is believed to be the biggest amount that has been levied on a two-wheeler under the amended regulations of the Motor Vehicle Act 2019 in Odisha.
