Cuttack: A six-member gang of burglars looted money and ornaments from a house at Khamar Nuagaon village under Khutuni Police limits in Athagarh area here late last night.

Laxman Rout, the person in whose house the theft took place, claimed that around Rs 25,000 cash and gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees have been looted from his house.

As per reports, while Laxman was sleeping in his shop, some metres away from his house last night, the gang of thieves barged into his house at around 2.30 PM and threatened his family members at knife-point.

They later broke open the 'almirah' and decamped with the cash and jewellery kept inside it.

"The robbers entered the house by breaking open the lock of the door and threatened us with a knife. They asked me for money and when I refused that I don't have anything, they manhandled me. Later, they broke the almirah lock with a hammer and decamped with the cash and jewellery," alleged Laxman's wife Laxmipriya Rout.

"My wife called me over phone and informed about the theft. By the time I reached, the thieves had already fled the spot," said Laxman.

An FIR has been lodged at Khutuni Police Station in connection with the incident.
