Jajpur: More than two and a half months after the mysterious death of Jharaphula Nayak, a girl student of Ramadevi (RD) University, Jajpur police on Monday admitted that she was murdered after arresting the second accused in the sensational case.

Rakesh Swain, the boyfriend of the deceased, and the main accused in the murder case was arrested by police a few days after the body of the Jharaphula found dumped along roadside.

Jajpur superintendent of police (SP) Rahul PR said the second accused, identified as Amaresh Rout, has been arrested for his involvement in the murder conspiracy. He is a friend of the main accused and belongs to the same village.

“Accused Amaresh Rout was arrested yesterday and forwarded to court. He had helped the main accused in the murder. The accused had booked a hotel room on behalf of Rakesh Swain where Jharaphula was murdered. He is a friend of the main accused and belongs to same village,” said Rahul PR.

“Amaresh was absconding since the crime. Following a tip-off, he was arrested by the Jajpur police. Now, documents and evidence collection from forensic lab is at an advance stage,” the SP added.

Rakesh and Amaresh allegedly murdered Jharaphula in the private guest house in Bhubaneswar on January 26. Later, Rakesh with the help of another aide Sekhar carried the girl’s body on a two-wheeler and dumped it at a roadside near Mulapala Chowk under Kuakhia police limits in Jajpur district.

Speaking about Sekhar, the SP said steps are being taken to nab the accused who is absconding.
