Bhubaneswar: In a latest development in the mysterious death of Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak, the police have recovered a scooter allegedly used to carry the girl following her death.

Police have reportedly recovered the scooter from Sundarpada area in Bhubaneswar. The two-wheeler was allegedly used by the accused identified as Rakesh Swain and his associate to carry the girl's body to Jajpur where they dumped it.

The Jajpur police, probing the mysterious death of the RD Women’s University student, on Wednesday brought accused Swain to Bhubaneswar for further investigation into the case.

The special team of Kuakhia police along with Jajpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) took the accused to a guest house in Dharma Vihar area of Bhubaneswar where he had allegedly stayed along with Jharaphula on the fateful night on January 26.

The police team recreated the crime scene in room No. 201 of the guest house yesterday to get a clear picture of sequence of events on the fateful day.

It is suspected that Jharaphula’s death was a pre-planned murder, but the police is yet to find out any clue or establish the exact motive of the crime.

As per eyewitnesses, two youths brought the girl’s body on a scooter at around 8 AM on January 27, and fled the spot after dumping her on the roadside near Mulapala Chhak under Kuakhia police limits in Jajpur district. The entire act was recorded in a CCTV camera installed near the spot.

Jharaphula was a 2nd Year student of Philosophy Department in Rama Devi Women’s University.
