Bhubaneswar: The Malgodown police busted a 'duplicate' honey factory at Ranihat Canal Road in Cuttack district and arrested one person on Saturday. The arrested person has been identified as Chandi Rao.

Acting on a tip-off, the Malgodown police conducted a raid at the 'duplicate' honey factory and seized around 1196 bottles of honey. They also reportedly seized fake bottles of Gangajal, Gulabjal and other puja items worth lakhs of rupees during the raid.

The miscreants were reportedly mixing sugar, molasses and other chemicals to prepare fake honey and other products. Chandi, who has been arrested by the police, admitted that they were using labels of different companies and sending it to market.

“We have been running the factory for the last five years and sending those products to Choudhury Bazar for sale,” confessed Chandi.

Cuttack DCP Pratik Singh informed that the factory was operating illegally in the area. “The factory had no license under Food Standard Authority which prompted us for the raid,” said Singh.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
