Rairangpur: Forest department officials on Thursday arrested one person for his alleged involvement in leopard skin smuggling racket in Mayurbhanj district. One leopard skin has been recovered from the possession of the accused who has been identified as Laxman Nayak.

“It was an undercover operation which was on for the last six to seven months. We managed to nab the accused at around 10 am today and recovered a leopard skin. The skin seized during the raid is 153 cm long from head to tail,” said Rairangpur DFO, Arun Kumar Mishra.

According to Mishra, two to three persons were also involved in the racket and a manhunt has been lauched to nab them.

Earlier on June 13, the Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch claimed breakthrough in leopard skin smuggling racket by arresting the mastermind from Ranpur area of Nayagarh district.

Two leopard hides and bones (30 pieces) were recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Laxmidhar Nayak.
