Ganjam: Coronavirus continues to bring unending miseries and one arguably cannot find better examples than two families in Ganjam who have seen their world turn upside down in the pandemic.

Anuradha Panigrahi from Digapahandi lost her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law to the virus. Though she also contracted the infection, she was fortunate to return home after recovering from the disease.

According to sources, Anuradha’s father-in-law Krushna Chandra, an engineer by profession, mother-in-law Janaki and husband Jitendra had tested positive for the COVID19. Later, the test report of Anuradha also came positive. Only the two children in the family were spared by the virus.

All were admitted to a COVID hospital at Sitalapalli. Unfortunately, Janaki became the first victim and succumbed to the virus on July 15 while undergoing treatment. Five days later, Krushna Chandra also passed away while his son breathed his last the same evening.

Though Anuradha recovered and returned home after being discharged from the hospital, she is devastated after learning about the deaths of her husband and in-laws.

“I lost three members of my family. No one left to earn a living. I urge the government to help me,” she said.

The story is no different for a family in Angargaon in Beguniapada of Ganjam that lost three earning members to coronavirus.

Even before arrival of his Covid-19 positive report, Krushna Chandra Sahu, the youngest of the three siblings of the family had died. Within a week, the middle brother Mangaraj and eldest Basudev also succumbed while undergoing treatment at Sitalapalli COVID hospital.

Moreover, nine other members of the family are currently undergoing treatment after testing positive.

Santosh Sahu, nephew of the victims, said, “We are in a state of shock. How will we survive after losing all the earning members of our family? At present, nine family members are undergoing treatment, while four others have tested negative.”

Ganjam so far has reported 70 COVID19 deaths.
