Bhubaneswar: A day after witnessing 1264 COVID-19 cases, Odisha reported yet another record spike with 1594 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total coronavirus infection tally in Odisha reached 22693 on Friday. This is the third consecutive day that the State has reported 1000-plus COVID-19 cases.

Of the new cases, 1067 were detected from quarantine centres while 527 are local contacts. Ganjam recorded 732 new cases while next in line are Khurda and Cuttack districts with 320 cases and 136 cases, respectively. Bhadrak witnessed 60 new cases, Boudh (41) while 33 cases were detected from Koraput.

As per official reports, six persons succumbed to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 death toll in Odisha to 120.

Among the six Covid positive patients who died of the infection is a 44-year-old male of Ganjam district who was also suffering from diabetes, a 71-year-old male of Rayagada district who was also suffering from diabetes, Hypertension and Chronic Kidney disease, a 53-year-old male of Gajapati district, a 59-year-old female of Ganjam district, a 50-year-old female of Ganjam district and a 60-year-old male of Bhadrak district who was also suffering from Diabetes and Hypertension.

Two more Covid positive patients in State died due to other health complications.

So far, 14,393 patients have recovered from the disease, while active case count stands at 8148.
