Rayagada: The district administration of Rayagada on Wednesday announced to clamp a week-long shutdown starting from tomorrow in view of huge spike in Covid-19 cases.

The order came after soon after the district reported a whopping 96 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

As a strict measure to carry out massive contact tracing and testing, shutdown will be enforced in the entire district from tomorrow morning. If anyone develops symptoms, do not panic and inform the administration. I appeal all to cooperate. This way we can tackle the pandemic,” said Collector Pramod Kumar Behera.

“Obey government guidelines, do not come out of our homes and participate in social gatherings and use mask while venturing out for essential work,” Behera added.

Sharing details about the new infected persons, the Collector said 51 of them are male and 45 are female. While 92 were detected from home quarantine four cases are from TMCs.

A 10-day shutdown has also been enforced in Sambalpur district from today in view of rise in Coronavirus infections.

According to Odisha health and family welfare department, Rayagada district has so far registered a total of 338 cases of which 139 have recovered from the disease while remaining 197 are undergoing treatment at various COVID hospitals. Moreover, the district recorded two deaths due to coronavirus.

It is worth mentioning here that Odisha is witnessing a steady rise in the number of coronavirus infections day-by-day. As many as 1078 new cases of coronavirus were reported today, the highest-ever single-day spike till date, pushing the State’s overall case tally to 19835.

Also, the State witnessed deaths of five more Covid-19 patients, taking the number of fatalities to 108.
